Lazybones
A cellular automata game creation tool.
Lazybones is a tool for making retro, tile-based 2D games where the rules are cellular automata. You draw a before/after pattern, such as “rubies and rocks fall down into space”, and watch it fire across the map. A whole game is just a handful of these rules.
It runs on a hand-rolled C engine built on raylib with a Flecs ECS core, and games are defined in JSON. The Punk Collective first released it on itch.io in 2022, for Windows and macOS, and I’m developing it into a full creation game.
It’s the latest in a long line of cellular automata game engines I’ve built over the years. One of them, hackTILE, is shown below.
